Maldivians and the general public should consider consequences and opt to spread information responsibly, Mohamed Aslam, the Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure has advised.

Minister Aslam said this while discussing the state’s ongoing efforts to improve safety at construction sites in the capital city, in response to a question from RaajjeMV.

RaajjeMV asked Minister Aslam about an article posted on local news website Vaguthu Online, which cites the minister as having said that conditions at the site where a deadly accident occurred recently were ‘in adherence to safety code’.

Minister Aslam said that the incident, which resulted in the death of a 7-year-old girl, was immensely unfortunate and caused ‘sadness’ to a lot of people, and Vaguthu spreading false information on the matter is irresponsible.

In this regard, the minister highlighted that all information spread in public should be based in truth and called on journalists, as well as individual citizens to adhere to this standard.
