A nine-year old girl has been hospitalized after a loaded cement bag crushed her while she was walking down a street in capital Male' City.
CCTV footage active shows the girl walking a few steps ahead of a woman, presumably her mother, before a loaded cement bag falls from above, crushing her within seconds.
While a cloud of cement mix immediately sent bystanders scurrying in either direction, the woman standing beside her is seen dusting herself off and as the cloud clears, some bystanders are seen approaching the fallen bag, unaware that the child is underneath.
The footage shows the mother then rushing to uncover the heaps of cement mix under which the child was buried, another man helps her, lifting the unconscious child and rushing off in search of help.
Warning boards were seen placed in the area as well.
The child has since been rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) where doctors revealed to media that she was unconscious when brought to the hospital.
RaajjeMV understands that the child was rushed into the operation theater around 2pm.
Doctors have not disclosed details of her injuries.
Reports of the incident were shared with the Maldives Police Service at around 10:45 Sunday morning.
Locals are advised to take necessary precautions for road safety while crossing as well as walking underneath buildings that are under construction.
