Maldives Media Council is to appoint a President and Vice President on Sunday.
On Saturday, the council, comprised of a total of 15 members, elected 14 new members out of which seven were journalists and seven general members. While the council is comprised of eight journalists, MMC had appointed seven as one member, RaajjeTV’s Ali Yoosuf, is yet to complete his term in office.
The newly elected members are as follows:
Journalists:
- Ahmed Azif from Sun Online with 89 votes,
- Shifza Musthafa from VTV with 86 votes,
- Ahmed Jadhwan from PSM with 85 votes,
- Azmee Ali from Midhuvas Online with 82 votes,
- Hidhaayathullah from Hafthaa with 80 votes,
- Ali Ahsan from Dhi Islam with 73 votes and
- Ali Rifshan from Fenvaru Online with 70 votes.
General Members:
- Abdul Latheef Ahmed with 79 votes
- Hisaan Hassan with 73 votes,
- Ahmed Ameen Mohamed with 72 votes,
- Fathimath Sauzan Hussain with 70 votes,
- Athif Abdul Hakeem with 67 votes,
- Rifaa’ath Rasheed with 64 votes and
- Sheereen Nahid Latheef with 60 votes.
The current tenure of members is two years and members are not allowed to run for a consecutive term.
