Elections Commission Chairperson Ahmed Shareef has called on the public to refrain from actions that provoke disorder when conducting political activities, stating that peace must be maintained while conducting gatherings.
Commissioner Shareef urged the public to steer clear of actions that may provoke outrage and disorder at a time supporters of opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) took to the streets on Saturday afternoon during the progression of former President Abdulla Yameen’s summon to the police headquarters.
While supporters of the former President gathered to cheer for him outside the police HQ, ruling party supporters gathered protesting to call for his immediate arrest.
In this regard, Shareef called on the public to carry out their political protests peacefully and in ways that will not disrupt public peace.
