Loss of over MVR 600,000 was incurred after “Falcon” sank, reports boat owner.
Speaking to RaajjeTV, the boat’s owner Mohamed Hassan stated that the cargo boat sank after colliding into the base of a harbor navigation beacon in Manadhoo island of Noonu atoll at around 05:45 am on the 02nd of December.
Although Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s officers from its Northern Area Command were dispatched to the scene immediately, they were unable to save some of the cargo onboard while it was sinking.
“Falcon” had sunk near Manadhoo island after setting off to Maalhendhoo island from capital Male' City. The vessel, reportedly damaged, was flooded and submerged in the water along with the “expensive” merchandise onboard. MNDF officers however, managed to rescue to 150 passengers onboard.
Although no injuries were reported following the sea incident, luggage of the passengers onboard had floated off and they had lost cash, as well as expensive merchandize.
Stating that the boat is still submerged, Hassan stated that they have reported the incident to the media official at the police as well as the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
