There are 29 pending cases at the commission to investigate unsolved murders and disappearances, established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the 17th of November, reveals commission President Husnu Al Suood.
Speaking to news outlet VTV, prominent lawyer Suood who formerly served as Attorney General stated that the commission will be taking statements from all required and that no individual will be exempt from giving their statements, in relation to the investigations.

Some of the cases the commission will be re-opening investigations into include ones that have not been justly looked into and have been left untouched for a long period of time, such as the murders of Member of Parliament for Ungoofaaru constituency Afrasheem Ali, blogger and social media activist Yameen Rasheed as well as the abduction of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
President Solih assembled this commission under article 115 of the constitution which states the powers and responsibilities of the President conferred to his by constitution and law. As such, the commission will be investigating the mysterious murders and disappearances that the previous administration has neglected and left unsolved between the 01st of January 2012 and 17th November 2018. The commission was established because President Solih believes it is the responsibility of the administration to conduct Independent and reliable investigations to find out the truth behind these cases in order to establish justice.
The commission, assembled upon the inauguration of President Solih, has the powers vested to an institution that looks into criminal matters and will be taking adequate measures against perpetrators if required.
