Attempts to abolish Adhaalath Party resulted in the formation of a young leadership, says its leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla.

Imran made the statement in a twitter post on Sunday.

While he was jailed to 12 years in 2016 after being found guilty of terrorism, Supreme Court suspended his sentence last week.

In a tweet typed in Dhivehi, Imran highlighted that attempts to end the party, using “every possible form of influence”, have failed.

“The result was, the formation of a courageous, young leadership,” added Imran, applauding the party’s vice president Ali Zahir for the inspirational work.

The party leader further noted that the average age of the team formed under the guidance of Zahir “is 35”.

Since his release, Sheikh Imran has been praising the various party leaders that have been working tirelessly since his incarceration.

As such, he thanked the party’s only representative in parliament, MP Anara Naeem, for her “sacrifices” during what he described as the “most dangerous time”. He also noted the party’s president of foreign relations committee, Shidhatha Shareef’s work for the nation, and highlighted that she had fulfilled her promise to “remain on the streets” until Imran’s release from incarceration.
