Parliament passes MVR 52 million budget for Audit Office
The Auditor General’s office had proposed a budget of MVR 60 million
If more funds are required, it may be settled through the finance ministry of the contingency budget
Audit Office's budget is approved as a separate budget from the state budget

The Parliament has passed the annual budget for the Auditor General’s office as MVR 52 million.

Parliament on Wednesday passed the budget with 47 votes, as approved by its Public Finance Commiittee.

The Auditor General’s office had proposed a budget of MVR 60 million for 2019, however, the financial committee had passed a budget of MVR 52 million. The budget report states that if further funds are required, the Ministry of Finance and Treasury or the contingency budget will organize a way to settle it.

Every year, the Audit Office is required to send a proposed budget to the Parliament’s financial committee before Parliament passes an annual state budget for the following year. After approving it, the committee will then send it to the Parliament floor for consideration.
