Parliament has passed the motion to hold president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration on November 17.

The motion was passed with all present 63 MPs voting in favor at Sunday’s sitting.

All Maldives presidents, except Abdulla Yameen, were inaugurated on November 11, Republic Day. Due to various issues in the 2013 election, President Yameen’s inauguration was postponed to 17 November 2013 and he has said that he will remain as president until November 17.

President-elect Solih earlier expressed his wish to hold the inauguration on November 11. However, while the motion was being evaluated by the parliament committee earlier on Sunday, committee member and Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam said that Solih has relented to the state's decision to hold his inauguration on November 17, since he wants to put the nation first.
