Maldives Meteorological Services has on Sunday issued a white alert over an extensive part of Maldives.

MET Office issued the alert on Sunday morning, and expects heavy rain showers and thunderstorms to prevail between Faafu and Seenu atoll from 08:30 to 14:30 Sunday.

While the department predicts squally rain showers and thunderstorms across different regions of the country for the next few hours, showers are expected to be heavy in central and southern atolls.

Winds are expected to gust 35 miles per hour during showers, with surface winds light and variable becoming eat and south-easterly at three to 10 miles per hour in northern atolls, 10 to 18 miles per hour south-west and westerly.

MET Department predicts seas to be slight in northern atolls and moderate over the rest of the country.
