Residents of Machchangolhi ward in capital city Malé have held a celebratory ceremony to commemorate president-elect Ibrahim Solih’s electoral win.
The event was organized by constituents of north-Machchangolhi and was held in front of Aminiyya School, and was attended by the president-elect, the vice president-elect, and leader of the Jumhooree Party.

Decoration and ornaments at the ceremony were true to traditional Maldivian customs, and attendants were given a welcome ‘befitting for Maldivian sultans’.
In addition to president-elect Solih, vice president-elect Faisal Naseem and Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, the north-Machchangolhi MP Mariya Ahmed Didi had also attended the event.
Residents, garbed in tradition attire, had also showcased traditional Maldivian commercial and leisure activities, in line with Solih’s Jazeera Raajje (‘Island Maldives’) campaign title.
