Riyaz's dismissal is yet not possible under the guidelines of dismissing a PG leader

Reports have surfaced that Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is planning to dismiss Riyaz Rasheed as the party's deputy leader.

RaajjeMV understands that a senior member of the party had proposed to dismiss Vilufushi MP Riyaz at the PG meeting held on Tuesday.

Speaking to some media outlets, the senior member of the ruling party said that the decision to dismiss Riyaz comes following his actions that showed support for the opposition coalition.

Riyaz has taken to twitter to congratulate opposition leader Qasim Ibrahim and former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, and a photo that circulated on social media showed him with two opposition-aligned lawmakers, Ilham Ahmed and Abdulla Ahmed.

According to the member, his dismissal is yet not possible due to the guidelines under which a deputy leader can be dismissed. Following this, work had begun to bring amendments to the act so that appropriate measures may be taken against Riyaz.

RaajjeMV was unable to get a comment from Riyaz at the time of publishing as he had not answered the station’s calls.

Riyaz told other media outlets that the opposition-aligned MPs had come to where Riyaz had been sitting and took the photo.

Riyaz also expressed concern as he has yet not been questioned regarding the measures that are to be taken against him.
