Former vice president Ahmed Adeeb, who is serving a decades-long jail sentence, has on Wednesday been brought to capital city Malé for medical purposes.

RaajjeMV understands that the youngest vice president in Maldivian history was brought to see a urologist, conduct a CT scan, and to get a 'kidney test' done, with the specifics of the latter being yet unclear.

Adeeb's family and lawyers claim that his health condition has declined drastically since his incarceration in 2016. Doctors have diagnosed him with glaucoma, having developed kidney stones, and mutliple cysts.

Despite overwhelming evidence to prove that Adeeb required urgent medical attention that cannot be acquired in the Maldives, the government has refused to allow him leave the country.

The former vice president was convicted of weapons possession, attempted assasination of the president, and embezzlement through the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation. He is currently facing additional charges of corruption.

Adeeb's case has been highly politicized, with his lawyers claiming that he did not recieve a fair trial and was in fact a 'scapegoat' used by President Abdulla Yameen to hide his involvement in the embezzlement cases.

In multiple statements released from prison, Adeeb claimed to have intimate knowledge of high profile judicial proceedings that were influenced by the Yameen administration.
