JP leader Qasim to return on Wednesday, with team

Following the Joint Opposition candidate’s win in last week’s presidential polls, Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim and his political advisor, former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed are to return to Maldives this Wednesday.

Qasim confirmed his return on VTV’s ‘Fas Manzaru’ programme on Sunday night, where he said that he expects to arrive in the Maldives at around 3pm on Wednesday, October 3.

The announcement comes hours after the High Court granted him bail, and authorities released his passport.

Qasim- sentenced to three years, two months and 12 days in prison on bribery- has been living in self-exile in Germany since November 2017. He traveled there after being granted the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS)’s medical board granted him permission to travel to Singapore.

The opposition leader said that in addition to Jameel, JP’s president Ali Waheed will make his return to Maldives on Wednesday as well. RaajjeMV can also confirm that the party’s former deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim will also be accompanying them.
