Villingili Magistrate Court has released the island's Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) wing's vice president Ameez Hassan, after nullifying his case.
While Ameez was arrested from the polling queue on Sunday, having arrived back in the island after some time away in Thinadhoo island, he was released on Wednesday.
His release comes after an appeal was made at the court to review his case.
RaajjeMV understands that his arrest did not come under a court order, and officers had attained the court order after Ameez was taken into police custody. Police had revealed that Ameez had been arrested with the absence of a court order, at the remand hearing on Sunday.
Speaking to RaajjeMV before his arrest, Ameez revealed that some individuals had been giving him a hard time for defending the citizens against the various actions of corruption by the current administration. However, Ameez had told the station that he would not take a step back in the reform efforts.
Prior to his release, he was treated at Gaaf Alif atoll Hospital due to a sudden health deterioration.
