Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Vice President Mohamed Shifaz has on Tuesday made an appeal on all members of the party on behalf of the party management.

Shifaz appealed on all MP’s to refrain from actions that pave way for chaos and disorder to erupt in public as well as to steer clear of trouble while gathering in public spaces.

MDP’s Vice President made this appeal while speaking at the party’s 167th national congress on Tuesday.

“We appeal on all members of the party to refrain from actions that may lead to disorder, while celebrating out there or holding gatherings in any way” said Shifaz.

Shifaz had also commended President-elect, who is also an opposition-aligned lawmaker, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed, the party’s leadership as well as members for their remarkable efforts to bring the party success.

Vice President Shifaz further called on members to continue holding celebrations following Solih’s momentous win over President Abdulla Yameen on Sunday’s election, and to make sure the celebrations are carried out in peace.

The results on Sunday showed that Solih won with 58 percent, leading the votes with 134,616 votes which is the highest a candidate has received in a presidential election in the country. Once in office, he will become the first Maldives President that is not native to the capital city, Male’.
