Ruling party supporters have been seen gathering at the green zone of the Republic Square, which is off-limits to public gatherings.

People from the atolls have begun arriving at the capital city to attend Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s mass campaign event on Tuesday night.

The police service is facing public criticism after photos of PPM supporters inside the green zone began circulating on social media.

Police officers have earlier pushed back members of the opposition coalition that enter the green zone and people who were heading to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) congress in AA. Ukulhas were stopped from travelling to the island from the area.

Police have also threatened to take legal action against those holding political rallies inside the green zone, even though PPM supporters continue to gather at the area and take photos.

RaajjeMV was unable to get a comment from the police service, as the media officer failed to answer the phone calls.
