A power outage occurred in GDh. Rathafandhoo after Joint Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih arrived in the island for a campaign event on Monday.
After the blackout occurred as he was speaking, candidate Solih continued his speech with a megaphone.
Speaking to Rathafandhoo residents, Solih said that a government led by the opposition coalition will establish water supply and sewerage systems in all islands.
Rathafandhoo council president Hunaif Ismail told RaajjeMV that the island did not face a power outage during Solih’s speech but that it was cut deliberately because some people could not accept the fact that the majority of island residents support Solih.
He also said that prominent ruling party supporters in the island have begun working in the opposition’s campaign and that he predicts that Solih will receive the island’s majority.
Responding to the council president’s accusation, Rathafandhoo’s power station manager Ahmed Fauz told RaajjeMV that the power outage was due to a technical issue and that they are working to restore power.
