Residents of Noonu atoll Maafaru island have expressed their concern over having to face difficulties due to continued blackouts in the island for a drawn-out period of time.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, a resident said hat they have been facing power cuts for a period of two months now, adding that it lasts for about two to three hours every other day.
Maafaru with a population of 1,200 residents, has been facing power cuts due to faulty generators which are yet to be repaired, and a single generator of 80 kilowatts is currently generating power to the entire island.
The resident revealed that maintenance of the generator is carried out by cutting off the power across the island every other day.
Citing a worker at the engine house, the resident told RaajjeMV that a 13-kilowatt generator had been brought to island before President Yameen’s arrival, however, it has not been used since then.
Residents of the island had filed a request for a solution to the continued blackouts at FENAKA Corporation to no avail.
