Dr. Mohamed Shaheem, the President’s running mate, is facing public condemnation for holding a mixed political gathering at a mosque in GDh. Thinadhoo.
He is being criticized over photos circulating on social media showing him sitting with young men and women with President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign T-shirts at the mosque’s entrance.
South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof on Twitter accused him of hypocrisy for holding a mixed gathering at the mosque for their campaign while also advocating for strengthening Islamic principles in the country.
Mahloof and others have also criticized pro-government religious scholars for remaining silent over the issue.

The Political Party Act prohibits parties from conducting political activities at mosques.
