Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) lawmakers have been condemned for using edited videos of opposition campaign videos.

Some ruling party MPs are being criticized by the public for posting the opposition’s videos after editing it in a way that gives the opposite message of what the original videos expressed.

While the original videos showed young people saying they would vote for Joint Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the edited videos show them saying the opposite.

Addu-Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam in a tweet on Wednesday called out pro-government Velidhoo MP Yamin Rasheed for sharing the edited video.

In the tweet, Rozaina called Yamin pathetic and asked if he is aware that it is a crime to steal intellectual property. She also called on the people in the video to report it to the police.

A video has also been circulating on social media of MP Yamin being berated by a woman after he arrived in B. Kudarikilu to campaign for President Abdulla Yameen.

Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, the ruling party’s parliamentary group leader, has also been condemned for spreading misinformation over main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s manifesto.

PPM has yet to publicize their manifesto.
