Important to give Naseem written document confirming his running mate nomination, says MDP chair
While MDP's Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is the common candidate of the opposition coalition, running mate Faisal Naseem is from Jumhooree Party
Latheef's call comes after Jumhooree Party's former youth wing leader Moosa Anwar filed a case at the Civil Court
Faisal was selected as Solih's running mate after a secret ballot by the party's council

Following a court appeal regarding opposition presidential candidate's running mate Faisal Naseem, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s chairperson has called on Jumhooree Party (JP) to give him a written document confirming his nomination.

Latheef said this via twitter, with a copy of the letter handed to MDP's presidential ticket Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attached to the tweet. While Solih is the common candidate of the opposition coalition, running mate Naseem is from JP.

Latheef's call comes after Jumhooree Party's former youth wing leader Moosa Anwar filed a case at the Civil Court, seeking to hold a second round of voting to pick the opposition coalition parties’ running mate.

Faisal was selected as Solih's running mate after a secret ballot by the party's council. While 41 members took part in the vote, 15 voted in favor of Naseem.

While MP Ali Hussain came in second at the council vote with 14 votes, Anwar noted that an invalid vote was for Hussain, hence making him tie with Faisal. Noting that the ballot paper had crossed off all names except for Hussain, Anwar had said that 'this should not be considered an invalid vote'.
