RaajjeMV has learnt that the Civil Court has issued an order to confiscate former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer’s passport.

Umar Naseer has announced that he will be running in the presidential election slated for 23rd September.

According to information received by RaajjeMV, the Civil Court order was issued following a debt settlement case lodged against a company affiliated with Naseer.

RaajjeMV understands that Whale Submarine, which Naseer has a share in, was ordered to pay the pension office up to MVR 1.8 million by the court in 2016.

Along with Naseer, passports of the company’s directors were also withheld because they had not paid up the amount to the Pension Office as stated in the court order.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Naseer denied that his passport has not been confiscated.

Naseer will not be allowed to contest September's election if he has unsettled debt.
