Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested an individual following a drug bust in two islands.
According to police media official, they had in two separate operations conducted in Laamu Hithadhoo and Gaaf Alif Villigili respectively, arrested a 20-year-old male.
Following an intelligence report received by the Police that some individuals were dealing with narcotics in Hithadhoo, the police had carried out an operation on Wednesday in which a man was searched and they had seized four rubber packets believed to contain narcotic substances.
When he was brought to Laamu Fonadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the man had been remanded by 15 days in a detention center to be decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Moreover, following an intelligence report that narcotics were to be smuggled into Villigili in Gaaf Alif atoll, the police had searched a boat that docked in Villigili on the 18th of July. The police had confiscated four rubber packets believed to contain narcotic substances in this operation as well, however, no arrests had been made in this case.
