Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture and Chair of All-Party-Talks Dr. Mohamed Shainee has congratulated the nomination of Faisal Naseem as the joint opposition parties’ running mate, and called to engage in talks in order to ensure 'a transparent, free and fair election'.
In a tweet posted on Saturday afternoon, Dr. Shainee called on the opposition coalition’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running mate Faisal to "engage in talks to reconcile the political differences and guarantee a free, fair and transparent election.”

Dr. Shainee was one of the first government representative's to welcome Solih’s nomination as the joint opposition’s presidential candidate, describing it as 'a good step towards political accordance' as he is eligible under the qualifications stated under the Maldives constitution, to run for presidency.
While the Presidential Election is slated for the 23rd of September, window to submit bids of candidacy will be opened from the 23rd of July till the 04th of August.
