Customs seize imported narcotics weighing 6.87 kgs at airport
Police had seized narcotics from a Bangladeshi national as well as a Maldivian travelling from Bangladesh during the last week of June
The first seizure weighed a total of 4,828 kilograms and the second, 2,053 kilograms.
The customs has since handed the matter over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation

Maldives Customs Service has seized 6.87 kilograms of narcotic substances upon inspecting luggage of a passenger at the airport.

According to customs, a Bangladeshi citizen who had arrived in Maldives from Cochin, India, was searched upon suspicious behavior following which they had found 2 blankets of substances suspected to be narcotics inside his luggage.

An official from customs said that upon analysis, said substances had turned out positive to cannabis and that the packing of suspected narcotics weighed a total of 4,828 kilograms.

Customs said that narcotic substances were seized from another, a 34-year-old man who had arrived in Male’ from Bangladesh. The man who had arrived on the 25th of June, had been searched upon suspicious behavior as well, and customs officers had found substances suspected to be narcotics in his luggage.

The narcotics seized from the 34-year-old had also turned out positive to cannabis upon analysis and weighed a total of 2,053 kilograms.

The customs has since handed the matter over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
