Sickly detainee, Ibrahim Rasheed's legal representative Nazim Abdul Sattar has reported that his client's health is deteriorating behind bars.
Nazim said that he had seen pictures of Rasheed's bruised body, adding that Rasheed's ailment has not yet been diagnosed.
Rasheed native to capital city Male', was arrested at the massive May Day rally held in 2015 and is being charged with terrorism for allegedly assaulting a police officer at the rally.
He was found guilty of the charges and sentenced to seven years in incarceration on the 7th of August 2016.
RaajjeMV was unable to attain a comment from Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) regarding Rasheed's health condition at the time of publishing.
Another prisoner of the May Day rally, Abdulla Rasheed who was serving a five-year jail term, had passed away in early October 2017 while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Following his death, Rasheed;s family had accused MCS of being negligent in providing him with necessary medical treatment despite him having been sick for months.
Rasheed's wife Shehnaz Abdul Raheem had, citing doctors reports, said that the cause of his death was due to failure of lungs and kidney following internal infections.
Several opposition political figures and citizens have been raising their concerns over the MCS's negligence in providing adequate medical care for the May Day prisoners.
