Court releases suspect in Addu accident after deceased victim's family decide not to sue

Police have released the suspect arrested in a road collision that had resulted in the death of an elderly in Addu City.

The elderly man had been riding on his bicycle on Addu City's Link Road when a speeding car had lost control and collided into him on Sunday night, near the harbour area in Feydhoo.

60-year-old Abdulla Manikfaan, resident to Feydhoo district of Addu, who had been receiving treatment at the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital’s intensive care unit succumbed to his injuries mere hours after he had been brought in.

The family of the deceased did not wish to file suit against the driver of the car, thus he was released by the court after he had been presented for trial.
