MP Faris Arrested
Officers had barged into Endherimaage unlawfully, against court order: ex-Pres. Maumoon
MP Faris, released on Thursday, was re-arrested today
He is already charged with bribery and identity fraud
Maumoon said “there is no room or office belonging to Faris in Endherimaage”

As part of the search conducted against Dhiggaru constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon, police searched Endherimaage, the residence of his father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

While the warrant authorizes officers to search ‘things related to Faris in Endherimaage,’ Maumoon accused police officers of barging into his home “unlawfully”.

Noting that the search warrant authorizes officers to search places related to Faris, the former President said that “there is no room or office belonging to Faris in Endherimaage”.

He said that officers had “barged in” even after he informed them that there is nothing related to Faris there.

MP Faris, already charged with bribery and identity theft, was re-arrested on Saturday, less than 48 hours after Criminal Court sanctioned his release after 191 days in custody. The new arrest warrant accuses Faris of bribery, as well as conspiring to overthrow the government along with other parliamentarians.

Speaking at an opposition rally held hours after Faris was released, former President Maumoon said that he was in support of changing the government, “even before the presidential elections”.
