Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plans to launch direct flights to the Maldives following the expansion of its fleet with new aircraft, the airline's Chief Executive Officer announced on Wednesday. This decision is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen tourism, trade, and social ties between the two nations.
According to a statement released by PIA, the airline's CEO, Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat, made the announcement during a meeting held at the airline's head office with a visiting delegation led by the Speaker of the People's Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Speaking at the meeting, Muhammad Amir Hayat stated that the commencement of direct flights to the Maldives is a significant step toward strengthening regional ties and facilitating travel for the increasing number of passengers between the two brotherly nations. The discussions also explored various avenues for bilateral cooperation, including technical assistance and training within the aviation sector. In this regard, the Maldivian delegation expressed interest in utilizing PIA’s engineering and training facilities. These efforts align with PIA’s broader strategy to expand its international network and improve its financial standing by incorporating modern, fuel-efficient aircraft into its fleet.
