Hanimaadhoo-Hirimaradhoo Housing Work Yet to Begin Despite Muizzu’s Deadline

Hanimaadhoo Council President Ali Ibrahim has stated that no work has commenced on the housing project for the residents of Hirimaradhoo, despite the approaching deadline set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to complete the houses and hand over the keys.

Hanimaadhoo Council President Ali revealed this during RaajjeTV's "Fashaairu" program. He noted that although President Muizzu had pledged to complete the project within 18 months, no progress has been made despite the deadline fast approaching.

Ali stated that private owners are currently in the process of removing their trees and vegetation from the site. He clarified that no other work is being carried out at this time.

"We have been instructed to say that work is progressing rapidly whenever anyone asks about Hirimaradhoo. But we cannot say that, can we? It is not progressing; no work is being done at all."

President Muizzu tasked the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) with constructing homes in Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo for the residents of Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo during his visit to the atoll in August 2025. Addressing approximately 200 residents of Hirimaradhoo, the President pledged that every individual holding a land plot in Hirimaradhoo would be granted a replacement plot in Hanimaadhoo, complete with a newly constructed house. He further stated that the government aims to complete the entire project within 18 months, with physical works expected to commence shortly.

However, Council President Ali noted that no work is currently underway in Hanimaadhoo either. He further clarified that the council has not placed any obstacles or hindrances to the progress of the project. Additionally, Ali confirmed that two political directors have been appointed to the recently dissolved Hirimaradhoo Council.

The initial appointment letter was sent to one individual, as we initially assumed only one person named Juwayriyya was being appointed. However, upon further review, it became clear that two different individuals share the same name. Both have now been appointed to the PNC: one is a former council member, and the other is the President of the Women's Development Committee (WDC). We were alerted to the second appointment after representatives from their side reached out. Following this, the council contacted us to confirm that an additional person would indeed be appointed.

Ali further stated that following instructions to set up workstations and install the necessary systems within the council building to accommodate the newly appointed officials, the Hirimaradhoo Council is currently underway with those preparations.
