Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, the Member of Parliament for the South Hulhumale' constituency, has announced his intention to contest the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential primary.
In an interview with "Avas" news, MP Shamheed announced his candidacy for the MDP presidential primary, pledging to resolve the challenges facing the public and ensuring a government that truly serves the common citizen.
Shamheed stated that the Maldives is on the brink of economic bankruptcy. He further noted that the country has reached this state because it is being governed by individuals who lack an understanding of the nation's economy.

MP Shamheed further alleged that successive Maldivian administrations have consistently prioritized providing financial benefits to those within their inner circles. He also noted that corruption has reached unprecedented levels.
MP Shamheed stated that despite 18 years of democracy, during which 500 billion rufiyaa was spent and the nation incurred a debt of 160 billion rufiyaa, the aspirations of the people remain unfulfilled.
