Paid parking system to be established in Male' city parking zones

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has announced that a paid parking system is currently being established within parking zones in Male'.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office on Wednesday, Minister Saeed announced that equipment is currently being installed to establish a paid parking system in the newly opened section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Minister Saeed stated that efforts are underway to identify additional parking zones and on-street parking spaces across Male' to install digital infrastructure. The Minister further noted that these facilities will operate on a pay-per-hour basis, requiring users to pay for the specific duration of their parking.

The parking zone on Boduthakurufaanu Magu can accommodate over 500 vehicles. Equipment has already been imported to establish a "Touch and Go" system, which will allow for parking during off-peak hours and outside of office hours for a nominal fee. Similarly, we are considering identifying other areas within Male' to implement such facilities for on-street parking.

Minister Saeed stated that the development of parking buildings initiated by the previous Ministry of Transport is currently underway, and a contractor has been secured to establish a modern parking facility at the Heenaamaage plot in Male'. The Minister further noted that an agreement has also been reached to construct an additional parking building in another area of the capital.

Minister Saeed stated that these projects are expected to be completed by November 2027. The Minister further noted that the government will be responsible for determining the pricing for the parking buildings in Male'.
