Civil Court schedules hearing over Qasim Ibrahim's medical extension

A hearing for Qasim Ibrahim’s case with the Civil Court seeking to have his medical leave abroad further extended has been scheduled for Thursday.
The case was scheduled for 10:15 am, and asks that Qasim be allowed to remain in Singapore until his treatment has concluded.
The Maldives Correctional Services (MSC) has asked the police to apprehend Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, who is currently in Singapore.
The MCS’s medical leave granted to Qasim expired on October 2nd, and an official from the service said that he is a fugitive and that they consider him to have ‘attempted to flee’.
The Maldives Correctional Services had granted Qasim a 10-day period for medical leave on 6th September. Prior to this, the Home Minister had even suggested that Qasim bring in doctors to treat him.
The 10-day period was extended on September 13th, and again on 26th September. Qasim was asked to return to the country by 2nd October.
Qasim was sentenced to three years, two months, and 12 days in prison over the bribery allegations made against him under Section 510 of the Penal Code – on 'bribery and official misconduct' – claiming that he had attempted to influence the authority of a public official.
