The Thinadhoo council has decided to submit a formal complaint to the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy regarding the illegal discharge of chemical-laden water and cement runoff into the wetlands located in the southern region of the city. The council aims to seek compensation for the environmental damage caused and ensure that necessary legal actions are taken against those responsible.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Thinadhoo Mayor Saud Ali stated that the council is investigating the illegal discharge of chemical-laced water and cement runoff into the wetland area located in the southern part of the city, which is causing significant environmental damage.

The council first disclosed the matter in a social media post shared last Saturday. Alongside the post, the council also released a video clip.

The video footage shows a pipe discharging water from a construction site directly into the wetland. However, the council has not yet disclosed the identity of the party responsible for the site or its specific location.

In an interview with RaajjeMV regarding the matter, Thinadhoo Mayor Saud Ali stated that the council has reviewed the issue and decided to submit a formal request to the Ministry of Environment to seek compensation for the damages caused to the wetland area. The Mayor further noted that the council's legal department is currently undertaking the necessary work to facilitate this process.

Highlighting the hazardous nature of chemicals and cement-contaminated water, the Mayor stated that such substances would cause significant damage to the wetland's vegetation and the diverse bird and insect populations inhabiting the area.

The Mayor provided full assurance that the council remains committed to safeguarding and protecting the wetland area. He emphasized that the council will take all necessary measures to address the issue, noting that it remains a matter of significant public concern.
