Under this administration, we have witnessed Decentralization Act being placed in a coffin, nailed shut, and locked away: Sameer

Thoddoo MP Sameer has accused the current administration of dismantling the decentralization system, alleging during an MDP press conference that government decisions are being made in violation of democratic principles and without consulting relevant authorities. He further emphasized that Members of Parliament must exercise greater responsibility in holding the government accountable under these circumstances.

The Member of Parliament for the Thoddoo constituency, Hussain Sameer, has stated that the current administration has effectively buried the Decentralization Act, sealing it shut like a coffin.

Speaking at a press conference held by the MDP Parliamentary Group, Sameer stated that the public is not seeing positive results from current members of Parliament or those in government administration. He further remarked that as the current parliamentary term concludes, what has been witnessed is the effective burial of the Decentralization Act, suggesting it has been completely sidelined and locked away.

Sameer stated that enforcing the Decentralization Act is not a choice for the government, yet this administration has failed to implement the law.

The enforcement of the Decentralization Act is not a matter of choice for the government. However, as this parliamentary term concludes, what we have witnessed is the Decentralization Act being placed in a coffin, nailed shut, and locked away.

Furthermore, Sameer noted that while President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu frequently advocated for the Decentralization Act during his tenure as Male' City Mayor, his actions since assuming the presidency appear to be entirely contradictory to those principles.

Sameer further stated that the current administration lacks the understanding of how to govern in close proximity to the people or within the established principles of democracy.

He stated that the amendments brought to the Land Transport Act were handled in a deeply concerning manner. He noted that the bill was finalized abruptly, without any prior consultation with the relevant authorities.

Therefore, he stated that government members must conduct themselves in a manner that ensures the Parliament becomes more accountable than it is at present.

The MDP has voiced strong opposition to the government's policies. The party continues to maintain that many of the administration's decisions are contrary to the public interest.
