Two arrested and remanded for 15 days over 92,000 MVR bank fraud

Fiyoaree in connection with a scam that defrauded an individual of MVR 92,000 via a malicious Telegram link. Following their arrest under a court order, both suspects have been remanded in custody for 15 days as police continue their investigation into the matter. In light of this incident, the police have urged the public to remain vigilant against such scams and cautioned against sharing personal information or One-Time Password (OTP) codes with third parties.

Two individuals have been arrested for defrauding a victim of MVR 92,000 through an unauthorized transaction. The victim reportedly lost the funds after clicking a link sent by an acquaintance from a Telegram group and subsequently sharing an One-Time Password (OTP).
The police stated that the matter was reported to the police service on August 17.
Following the submission of the case, police launched an investigation that led to the identification and apprehension of the account holder and an accomplice involved in the transaction.
The suspects arrested in connection with this case have been identified as Mohamed Fazeel, 23, of Fine Park, HA. Hoarafushi, and Abshar Rasheed, 23, of Fine Beach, GDh. Fiyoaree. Both individuals were taken into custody on August 18 under a court order.
When the two suspects were brought before the court to determine their remand status in connection with the case, the court ordered them to be held in custody for 15 days.
The police are currently investigating the matter.
To protect against scams, the police have urged the public to refrain from clicking on suspicious links sent online and to never share OTP codes. Authorities further advised individuals to verify the identity of parties when conducting online transactions and to avoid sharing personal information or banking details with others.
