Parliament to summon Hajj Corporation to establish mechanism for public disclosure of Hajj queue

Member of Parliament for North Galolhu, Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), has requested that senior officials from the Maldives Hajj Corporation be summoned to Parliament regarding the public disclosure of the Hajj queue maintained by the corporation.
In a letter addressed to Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the member stated that the Maldives Hajj Corporation’s current management of the Hajj waiting list lacks public accessibility. This lack of transparency has raised significant public concern regarding whether the allocation of Hajj quotas is being conducted through a fair and transparent process.
A Member of Parliament has requested the People’s Majlis Committee on State Owned Enterprises to summon officials from the Maldives Hajj Corporation to address growing public mistrust regarding the Hajj registration process. The request highlights the lack of a transparent system for registered applicants to track their position on the waiting list and the inability to verify that the queue is moving forward without undue influence.
In the letter, the member also outlined five specific points for which clarification is sought.
The Member questioned why a transparent system has not yet been established to allow citizens—who have waited years after making their Hajj payments—to clearly track and verify their current position on the waiting list. Furthermore, the Member inquired about the specific measures the Corporation has implemented to ensure the public that the queue progresses fairly, without any undue influence or bias. The Member also sought assurances regarding the safeguards in place to prevent "queue-jumping" and other irregularities.
Furthermore, the member questioned why the Hajj queue list cannot be made public while protecting personal data, similar to how the Elections Commission publishes the voters' list. The inquiry also sought to clarify whether the Corporation has any plans to launch a public portal that displays registration dates and queue positions with real-time updates, and requested a specific date for the implementation of such a system.
The member inquired about the percentage of the annual Hajj Corporation quota allocated to the general public queue. Additionally, the member questioned the transparency of the procedures and criteria used for allocating quotas under special categories.
