Utheemu Council Urges President to Fast-Track Harbor, Mosque and Development Projects

The Utheemu Island Council has requested the President to expedite the harbor and mosque projects, and to ensure the timely completion of the new council office and sports field developments.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Utheemu Island Council, the Women's Development Committee (WDC), and the heads of local institutions. According to the President's Office, the discussions focused on the island's developmental needs and the most pressing concerns of the residents. The meeting took place on Saturday afternoon at the Utheemu Council Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Utheemu Island Council expressed their hope for the harbor project and the construction of the island's central mosque to commence at the earliest opportunity. Council members also sought updates from the President regarding the progress of the State House project and requested the expedited completion of the futsal pitch, volleyball court, and the new island council administrative building. Furthermore, the council highlighted the shortage of nursing staff and general human resource constraints currently facing the island’s health center.
Speaking at the meeting, President Muizzu assured the council that the concerns raised would be thoroughly reviewed. He further stated that he would work towards finding comprehensive solutions to the issues highlighted during the discussions. According to the President's Office, the cabinet ministers accompanying the President also shared the latest updates on ongoing development projects in Utheemu.
The foundation stone-laying ceremonies for the new HA. Utheemu Council Secretariat and the local police station were held on January 28, 2025, during President Muizzu's official visit to the island. During these separate ceremonies attended by the President, the foundation stone for the new Council Secretariat was laid by the Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar. The foundation stone for the police station was laid by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan.
