A needle was broken inside a patient's tooth during a root canal procedure at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, the victim expressed deep concern over the incident and provided a detailed account of how the event unfolded.
He stated that he chose Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital over a private clinic for his dental treatment in hopes of receiving quality care at a more affordable price.
He stated that after consulting a doctor on the 8th of this month, he was informed that he required a root canal procedure.
He explained that the dental cleaning process was initiated prior to starting the treatment, during which a dental file broke off inside the tooth. Despite attempts to retrieve the fragment, it could not be removed, and he was subsequently advised to leave it in place and proceed with a filling. He further noted that he was instructed to sign a consent form, confirming he had no objections to proceeding with the filling procedure under those circumstances.
However, he stated that the hospital refused to provide a written document confirming that the bone fracture occurred during a root canal procedure conducted at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
Performing a root canal is a highly delicate procedure. It involves treating the dental pulp, which is a critical component of the tooth. Because the pulp is directly connected to the nerves, it is understood that not every dentist performs this procedure, as it requires specialized expertise. The victim
He stated that due to the hospital's refusal to provide the required documentation, he no longer wishes to seek further treatment at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. He further noted that his requests to be transferred to a facility capable of providing adequate care have been ignored, and that Aasandha coverage was denied on the grounds that the procedure is classified as cosmetic. He emphasized that since the additional complications arose during his dental treatment, the hospital must take responsibility and facilitate the necessary assistance for his recovery.
Allegations have surfaced against Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, claiming that a dental instrument was broken inside a patient's tooth during a root canal procedure and that the hospital subsequently attempted to cover up the incident. The hospital has yet to provide an official comment regarding the matter.
