Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has stated that the previously weak communication between the Ministry and regional healthcare facilities had created significant challenges in service delivery.
The Minister made these remarks while speaking at a press conference held on Thursday.
The management of island healthcare facilities has now been transferred directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health. In addition to this shift, several other changes have been implemented regarding the administrative governance of the health sector.
Providing details on the recent changes, Nazim stated that arrangements have been established to allow health facilities in certain islands to work directly with the central government office, rather than operating solely through the Ministry of Health.
The Minister stated that these changes were implemented in response to requests from healthcare providers. Furthermore, Nazim noted that these adjustments would strengthen the healthcare system across the atolls. The Minister also highlighted that the move would address existing challenges within administrative management.
Nazim stated that the most significant challenge facing the healthcare system in the atolls is the lack of coordination with the Ministry of Health. He further noted that recent reforms were implemented specifically to address these concerns.
"With this change, the process of securing budgets and recruiting staff will be managed directly under the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, health centers in islands with smaller populations will now be able to submit their requests directly to the Ministry," the Minister stated.
The Minister stated that this change was implemented following extensive consultations. He further noted that the decision was made after conducting comprehensive research. Nazim added that all necessary training sessions related to this transition have already been completed.
Nazim stated that he hopes this change will prove to be a positive one.
