Rising commodity prices drive inflation higher in December
Despite this monthly increase, prices in the communication sector remain lower than those recorded during the same period last year.

According to the latest Consumer Price Index released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics, the prices of goods and services had increased in December compared to November of the previous year.
The Bureau of Statistics reported that inflation rose by 0.16 percent in December. In addition to this, when measured against December 2024, overall prices recorded an increase of 0.41 percent.
The most notable price increases during the month were recorded in the food and fish categories, which rose by 1.21 percent. Within these categories, higher prices were observed for vegetables, dairy products, eggs and various types of fish. Fish prices alone increased by 1.01 percent on a month-to-month basis, marking a significant rise of approximately nine percent compared to the same period last year.
Communication services also registered an increase, with prices rising by 0.95 percent, largely due to adjustments in mobile phone service charges.
Despite this monthly increase, prices in the communication sector remain lower than those recorded during the same period last year.
