Following the Maldives’ triumph at the SAFF Futsal Championship held in Thailand, Team Manager Mohamed Umair has dedicated the prestigious victory to Ihusan “Saanthi” Abdul Ghanee, Mohamed “Baka” Arif, and Ifrah Areef.
Umair, who also serves as a member of the current executive committee of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), shared the heartfelt dedication through a social media post.
The post featured the SAFF Futsal Championship trophy displayed alongside three jerseys bearing the names of Coach Saanthi, Baka, and Ifrah.
In the post, Umair highlighted that Coach Saanthi was the mentor who offered him the greatest support and guidance throughout his career. He expressed lifelong gratitude for Saanthi’s contributions, noting that Saanthi was his very first coach at the beginning of his professional football journey. Coach Saanthi passed away in 2025 while undergoing treatment for cancer.
Umair also reflected on the many memories he shared with Baka, both at national team level and within club football. He described Baka as one of the kindest individuals he had ever known. Baka passed away in 2024 due to sudden health complications shortly after returning from Hajj pilgrimage.
Speaking about Ifrah, Umair noted that their connection dated back to when they were just 15 years old. He recalled that despite having grand ambitions from a young age, they maintained a very close relationship, and he described Ifrah as an exceptionally kind-hearted friend. Ifrah passed away in 2025 after suffering a stroke.
In concluding the tribute, Umair noted that all three individuals were integral members of the historic Maldives squad that won the SAFF Championship in 2008.
