Adhaalath Party to hold presidential election in late January

The Adhaalath Party has confirmed that a presidential election will be held on 31 January 2026, if more than one candidate contests for the position.

In an official statement regarding the opening of applications for the party's presidency, the Adhaalath Party specified that only individuals listed in the party's official membership roster as of 28 December 2025, are eligible to apply for the position.

Candidates aspiring for the Adhaalath Party presidency must meet several qualifications, including:

• Not having been found guilty by a court of committing an offense punishable by a Hadd (a prescribed penalty under Islamic law).
• Not having been convicted of treachery, corruption, or moral misconduct.
• Having served for a minimum of two years in at least one of the party's councils and demonstrating familiarity with the party’s principles and guidelines.
• Holding at least a diploma from a university or institution recognized by the relevant state authority.
• Having a minimum of three years of practical experience.

If only one candidate applies for the position, a "yes" or "no" confidence vote will be held.

The deadline for submitting applications for the Adhaalath Party presidency is 4pm on 8 January 2026.

The current president of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla, has completed two terms in office.
