China and the Maldives signed a development cooperation agreement on Thursday, with China providing grant aid of 600 million Chinese Yuan, over MVR one billion. The funding will support three projects: constructing the China-Maldives Friendship Hospital in Villimalé, developing road connectivity between Malé and Villimalé, and upgrading council buildings on 50 islands.

The government of China has decided to provide financial assistance exceeding MVR one billion to support development projects in the Maldives.
An agreement on development cooperation was formally signed on Thursday morning during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under the agreement, the Chinese government will provide grant aid amounting to 600 million Chinese Yuan, equivalent to approximately over MVR one billion, to support three development projects in the Maldives.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Maldivian government by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Khaleel, and on behalf of the Chinese government by the Ambassador of China to the Maldives Kong Xianhua.
According to the terms of the Chinese government grant aid, the projects slated for implementation include the construction of the China–Maldives Friendship Hospital in Villimalé, the development of road connectivity between Malé and Villimalé, and the upgrading of council buildings across 50 islands.
