President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, during his ongoing trip to Alif Dhaal atoll, has designated Kudadhoo lagoon and two other lagoons near Omadhoo island, as part of the island's territory.

Before commencing this trip, he announced and published a decree in the government gazette stating that Kudadhoo lagoon and the lagoons with code numbers RF1329 and RF1330 have been designated as part of Omadhoo for tourism and economic development projects that will benefit the residents.

The president made this decision while he is currently in Alif Dhaal atoll meeting with the atoll councils and residents.

Incorporating uninhabited islands near inhabited islands into their jurisdiction is one of President Muizzu's campaign pledges. Previously, he has included numerous uninhabited islands within the jurisdiction of various inhabited islands. However, many councils have expressed dissatisfaction with the amendments his government is bringing to undermine the Decentralization Act.

Omadhoo is known as a special island for growing local tourism, and many guesthouse operators on the island have expressed concerns about the severe lack of harbor facilities.

While the Omadhoo harbor development project has been stalled for two years, it is reported that some work on the harbor is now underway. However, sources from the island who spoke to RaajjeMV have noted that the work is not progressing at an adequate pace.

Although additional lagoons have been incorporated into the island's jurisdiction for tourism and economic benefits to the residents, guesthouse operators on the island have stated that this will not be beneficial while the harbor's inadequacy remains a critical issue.

The owners of more than 17 guesthouses currently operating in Omadhoo have also expressed their concerns about the harbor's limitations.
