Former minister Hamdhoon Abdulla Hameed has been appointed as advisor to Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer.
Hamdhoon has been appointed to the position at the ministerial level.
Hamdhoon was appointed as an advisor on national planning under the Finance Ministry, according to information released by the ministry on Tuesday.
Hamdhoon, a veteran public servant, is closely linked to two former presidents, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Abdulla Yameen, both of whom he refers to as uncle. He previously served as the Member of Parliament for Inguraidhoo constituency and held the post of Minister of Planning during President Gayoom’s administration. Under President Yameen, he was appointed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Singapore.
It is understood that Hamdhoon is currently advising Finance Minister Zameer on the implementation of the 20-year National Development Plan unveiled by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
While the Finance Ministry has confirmed Hamdhoon’s advisory role, no formal announcement of his appointment has been made by the government.
