The government of the Maldives has strongly condemned recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promoting the vision of a “Greater Israel,” which includes plans to expand settlements in Palestinian territories.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldives declared that such statements, and any efforts to implement them, are clear violations of international law and run counter to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The Maldivian government warned that the push for further settlement expansion directly undermines the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement emphasized that these actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

The Maldives also called on the international community to take swift and decisive action against what it described as Israel’s illegal and provocative policies. The foreign ministry stressed the significance of collective global efforts to prevent further escalation and to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people.

Reaffirming its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, the Maldives pledged to continue advocating for a just and sustainable solution that ensures peace and self-determination for Palestine.
