Spain’s Honorary Consul, Ibthishaam Mohamed Didi, has announced that efforts are underway to streamline the visa process and make it easier for Maldivians to travel to Spain.

She made these remarks while briefing journalists at Barceló Nasandhura, where she expressed hope for further enhanced relations between Spain and the Maldives in the future. She noted that Spain has provided good opportunities for Maldivians in training areas such as aviation and football.

Highlighting the increase in direct flights from Spain to the Maldives as a positive development, Ibthishaam noted that both countries will be working together in the future to explore opportunities in the Maldives in areas such as tourism, investment, and exposure.

In addition to this, she pointed out that there are areas where both countries could collaborate in reviving and promoting cultural traditions in the future, adding that her responsibilities are numerous, including overseeing matters related to Spanish visitors to the Maldives.

As such, she assured that she will play an important role in coordinating issues related to the increasing number of Spanish visitors to the Maldives.

Ibthishaam also noted that she will play a crucial role in addressing matters concerning Maldivian tourists traveling to Spain and in overcoming potential challenges, and expressed her pleasure in being able to play a significant role in strengthening the relationship between Spain and the Maldives.

As the first person to hold the position of Honorary Consul of Spain to the Maldives, Ibthishaam noted that her appointment during the Covid-19 period proved beneficial for both countries.

She said that it greatly facilitated helping people who were stranded during that time.

During her speech, Ibthishaam also shed light on the importance of expanding the role of women in high-ranking positions.
