Case of suspended IT officer of Broadcom submitted to NIC

The case of the suspended IT officer of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has been submitted to the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

The IT officer of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Fazeel, was suspended from his job due to suspicions arising from an investigation into an issue with the commission's server. The commission's president signed and sent a letter stating that he has been suspended from his job.

However, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has informed the media that they did not conduct an investigation at the commission. The police institution has stated that they went to the commission to provide assistance with the server issue. In the letter sent by IT officer Mohamed Fazeel to NIC and the People's Majlis, he states that as the sole person responsible for overseeing all IT matters at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, it is deeply concerning that individuals claiming to be police entered the commission's premises, tampered with the server, and requested its password. The reason highlighted is that the server contains confidential information of employees, the institution, and broadcasters that should not be disclosed.

Further, the letter states that although the police service has informed the media that it was not for an investigation, the document signed by the commission's president, Safa Shafeeq, states that the suspension was due to an analysis conducted by the police. Therefore, Fazeel requests clarification on whether the police conducted an analysis or an investigation. He also asks for clarification on whether the police service has shared in writing with the commission any matters of concern, as mentioned by the commission's president, and if so, what those matters are.

Fazeel has also requested in his letter, to look into the police's conduct, as they had summoned him to appear at the police station, then postponed it, and have not communicated anything to date.

According to Mohamed Fazeel, the Broadcom IT officer who was suspended, he is submitting complaints to other relevant authorities due to his unlawful suspension and the violation of his rights by the commission members.
